Mercedes Ngoh
I relocated to London from Los Angeles, California where I initially began my yoga practice and studies. I am originally from Ottawa, Canada and I have spent most of my life studying creative movement. A trained dancer, gymnast and track athlete, I value the tremendous benefits of using one's body as a form of self-expression and spiritual exploration.
I am very passionate about health and fitness and I initially began studying yoga as a way to strengthen my body and increase my flexibility. I was unaware of the amazing benefits that both my mind and spirit would receive. I found a new sense of calm, control, increased concentration and less reactivity in the face of stressful situations, not to mention that physically, my body became more sculpted, stronger and flexible than it ever was during my 15 years of dance training and athletics. I began to build my strength, both physical and spiritual, from the inside out instead of just on the surface and I moved into a place of authentic power rooted from deep within, rather than looking for validation in outside, temporary sources.
I have been living yoga now for over a decade. It was during my time in California that I began to dedicate myself to a more serious yoga practice and found myself gradually moving into teaching. I have studied with various inspirational teachers both in California and India but my first 200hr teacher training certification was completed directly under yoga pioneers Ganga White and Tracey Rich, founders of the highly regarded White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, California. I'm also an E-RYT200 and have completed Shiva Rea's 300 hr Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training program as well as a certification to teach Sport Yoga (Yoga for Athletes). I believe to be a good teacher one must continue to be a good student and to me Yoga is a never ending, always changing journey so therefore I am always continuing in my studies. As a supplement to my yoga practice I also practice Vedic Meditation.
I thoroughly enjoy the process of teaching and I love sharing the knowledge I have learned. I have been fortunate to have studied under many wonderful masters and one of the things I have been taught that I always try to bring to my teaching is remembering that nothing is ever really ours until we give it away. Hence by teaching and sharing the knowledge we have acquired it is only then that it is really integrated in us. I believe that by building greater strength of mind, body and intention, we allow ourselves to harness our deeper power within. Now based in London, I look forward to deepening my own yoga practice in addition to teaching new students.
In addition to a roster of private clients, I currently teach group classes out of Fulham Yogashala, Kensington Forum and KX Health spa in Chelsea. I am Yoga Alliance registered and hold a First Aid certification and insurance.
