Drop-in Yoga
Ashiyana's season runs from the 15th October until 15th April. Ashiyana's drop-in centre consists of a beautiful zen-like, circular building (with Iyengar props and incredible acoustics) and an upstairs open-air shala both located next to the Mandrem river and set amidst lush palms and a peaceful garden.The centre is for our yoga holiday guests as well as guests from outside Ashiyana to attend a daily programme of yoga classes, meditation (see below), and a mix of different workshops that are offered throughout the season. (* Afternoon classes are subject to attendance levels early and late in the season.) The following yoga styles are normally offered during the season: Ashiyana*, Yin, Dynamic, Sivananda, Iyengar, Scaravelli-inspired *Ashiyana Yoga has evolved here at Ashiyana. The asanas come from classical hatha yoga and the teaching is intuitive and encourages inner-awareness. Sun salutation and standing postures are normally fairly dynamic and the floor postures slower and deeper (yin). This is currently taught by Chris and Susie (see teacher page). We have no bias towards any particular style of yoga and encourage you to explore and experience with openness. Teachers The teachers for the drop-in classes will vary according to who is with us at any particular time. There are normally at least four teachers during any one week and we frequently run, at short notice, workshops focusing on a specific style or aspect of the asana practice. Please contact us if you would like to know who will be teaching during your visit. Daily Morning and Afternoon Yoga These are yoga classes suitable for all levels, beginners through to more experienced. The style of each class will depend on the individual teacher. Self Practice Join other yoga students and teachers in the drop-in shala and practice whatever form of yoga you feel to at your own pace and with the freedom to explore and enquire under the guidance of your inner wisdom. Sessions last for about 2 hours, though you may practice for a lesser time if you wish. Meditation The meditation sessions offer the opportunity to bring awareness to your inner stillness through withdrawing attention from the "outer world". All the above prices include tea in the restaurant before and after the classes. A delicious buffet brunch and dinner are also available to our drop-in guests and may be booked at reception before the class.
There are yoga mats available at Ashiyana to use freely, but we recommend bringing your own mat or buying one on arrival (Rs 900) as it is more hygienic and encourages you to develop a self-practice at home.
